200 working women are pressurized to move out of the government-built hostel in Ranchi, on the pretext of renovations. The women residing there say that they don't have any other place to live, and women from different districts across the Jharkhand state are residing in this hostel. The women said that they are going to hand over the hostel to a private organization named Sakhi Niwas, and the women were also asked to sign a blank paper that was used as consent to hand over the hostel to Sakhi Niwas.
Women residing in this hostel are working in medical stores, domestic help, or private shops and have only a monthly income of Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. If the hostel is handed over to the Sakhi Niwas, they will increase the rent by 15 percent, and women won't be able to pay the rent. There are also elderly women staying in the hostel, and renting a lodge or room would be difficult.
The women said that they are forcing them to vacate the hostel and pushing them into homelessness. They also said that if they really wish to repair the hostel, then we can stay in one part of the hostel while the repair work continues in another part. MLA Arup Chatterjee has delegated a team that will meet the relevant officials and the CM in this case. The women said that if their issue isn't resolved, they will soon start a protest.
