In 2026 alone, it is expected that India will see a 35,000 job loss, and companies are prioritising restructuring that is worth $315 billion. Many job cuts took place in the technology sector silently, and it is estimated that 10,000 to 15,000 job losses took place so far, and till the end of the year, 25,000 to 35,000 job losses are expected.
CIEL HR Services expects that by the end of 2026, there will be 21,000 layoffs, and by 2026, the job loss will have increased to 43,000. Accenture and TCS had announced in 2025, 23,000 job losses without any layoff announcement.
The job losses are due to widening skill gaps, AI, and efforts to reorganize company structures, but there is hiring taking place in sectors like AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. Infosys hired 5,000 workers in 2026, while others have reduced employees. The companies are streamlining their operations. Aditya Mishra, CEIL HR Chief and MD, says that companies are recruiting for future-ready roles.
