In a recent hearing, the New Mexico Court has ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to pay a penalty of $567 million. In a first round of the case, Meta was imposed a fine of $375 million under the COPPA Act of US rules.

The Mexico court said that children's privacy online should be protected under the Children Online Privacy Protection Act, under which kids under 13 years old should not be asked to share their personal details, and Meta has violated this rule. Brian Beadshead, the judge, said that from this penalty, $420 million will be spent on mental health and treatment, and the rest would be spent on awareness and prevention programs.
