We believe that kids are not aware of the parents struggles happening within a relationship. Parents assume that if arguments happen behind closed doors, kids won't get affected. But, Mental health counsellor and Author Manveer Kaur Anand repeatedly emphasized a different reality- kids see more, observe more, feel more, and absorb everything at home.
Kids understand the meaning of communication, trust, love, and relationships by observing their parents. Parents are the real icons for kids, and they learn from them how to communicate, feel, and argue. If there are harsh voices at home, then it would impact a kid's mental health.
If parents continuously ignore or criticize each other, then kids silently absorb all these things at home. They might not openly say anything, but these emotions settle deep within their minds.
Due to this, kids create emotional barriers to protect themselves in life.
Mental Health Counsellor from Ranchi, Manveer Anand says that an unhealthy home vibe might not always be visible during childhood. But it reflects later in a kid's mind. When adults come to Manveer Anand for consultation, they say they don't believe in marriage because they saw what their parents went through, or I am afraid of serious relationships because I don't want to go through the same pain.
Manveer Anand advises parents to be mindful of how they handle conflicts and choose healthy conflict resolution that would shape the kid's future and avoid emotional turmoil. Kids remember how a home felt far more than its aesthetics. Manveer Anand says that parents should adopt responsible parenting if they wish to stay together or mutually get separated for the sake of meaningful relationships in their child's life in the future.
