A new era of BJO begins in Bihar politics, where Samarat Choudhary was sworn in as Bihar chief minister, marking a transition after decades of Nitish Kumar's leadership. Samrat Choudhary faces a formidable and immediate challenge: matching the two-decade legacy of a leader with a good governance reputation.
Despite changes in the Bihar government, corruption continues to be a major problem in the state. Recent raids on senior officials have showcased the need to address the corruption issue. Samrat Choudhary has talked about a zero-tolerance approach, but the challenge is taking proper action that ensures transparency in the use of public services and CSR funds. Every day interaction with the government remains a huge burden due to unofficial payment for residents of Bihar, and this needs a new system of proper administration.
Law and order under scrutiny
For the new chief minister of Bihar, the first issue is to take action on law and order. While early years of Nitish Kumar's legacy saw a decline in crime, recently, it has increased. National Crime Records Bureau data show that there were 2556 murders in Bihar and more than 2000 rape cases in 2025.
Samrat Choudhary, who has handled the home portfolio previously, is expected to bring a stricter enforcement policy. This will improve public safety and build a developed Bihar.
Struggles in education and healthcare
Quality is a huge concern when it comes to Bihar's healthcare and educational infrastructure. There is a shortage of teachers and doctors in schools and hospitals.
Institutes like Patna Medical College have struggled to meet these expectations. And, welfare policies like the bicycle programme for girls improved schooling access. Long-term investment is limited in healthcare and education.
Now, there can be improvements with the support from the central government that will strengthen the workforce of Bihar.
