Due to the ongoing West Asia crisis in 2026, this is disrupting the fertiliser supply. This is the reason why the government is planning to push soil nutrients subsidy beyond Rs 2 lakh crore. In case of fertilizer shortage, the government will update the finance ministry.
In the last four years, the rates of fertilisers have increased around the world. Additional Secretary, Sharma said that urea rates have increased. Natural gas rates have also doubled. The cost of diammonium phosphate and urea are still the same.
This year in 2026, the government has planned to import 64 lakh tonnes of urea along with 19 lakh tonnes of other fertiliser in this Kharif season. 25 lakh tonnes of urea will arrive in the month of may.
Sharma said that all the supply comes from the State of Hormuz and will get supply on time. Due to gas requirements, 97 percent of domestic production has increased. Apart from this, there will be 3 lakh tonnes of ammonium sulphate and 4 lakh tonnes of triple super sulphate production will arrive soon for sufficient supply this Kharif season.
