EU has imposed a triple-digit million-euro penalty on Google Alphabet company, according to a German Paper. This decision is expected to be announced before the summer break for breaching the Digital Markets Act, which is aimed at curbing big tech giants power. This investigation began in March as Google favours its own services in search results and doesn't comply with local regulations.
EU Commission spokesperson Regnier said in an email statement that rather than a fine, the commission wishes to secure regulatory compliance. They will take strict action in future with their negotiations. Google has criticised the EU laws impact on its search product. The company spokesperson said that the changes have already been made to Search under the Digital Markets Act; this has represented the biggest downgrade in the product's history and created a second-rate experience for Europeans. Also, the European Commission states that they have given enough time to Google to ease concerns after a previous proposal from the company fell short.
